Team from the Intelligent Space Robotics Lab (Skoltech Center for Digital Engineering) led by Prof. Dzmitry Tsetserukou have created the MorphoLander: a new drone system with hybrid morphogenetic UAV acting like a mothership for several nano drones. The leader UAV can deliver a small inspection fleet to remote areas and align its position while landing on the uneven surface, increasing the time and safety of the drone mission. The nano drones are trained with reinforcement learning to land on the mothership in various terrain conditions, allowing the potential implementation of MorphoLander in search-and-rescue operations.
