Galina Chikunova, a PhD student at the Space Weather Laboratory (Skoltech Center for Digital Engineering), investigated the reasons for the loss of 40 of Elon Musk's satellites in February 2022 as part of the Iberian Space Science Summer School I4s 2023 at one of Europe's oldest universities, the University of Coimbra.

"We processed data from the space satellites from the Sun to Earth to track the complex double structure of a coronal mass ejection - the main cause of the unpredictable geomagnetic storm that ruined Musk's satellites," Galina said.

During the summer school, students, PhD students and researchers from 20 countries presented their research, group projects and listened to lectures by leading scientists on current research in space weather and solar physics.
