Mikhail Nikolaev is the new part-time senior research engineer at the Systems Thinking Group led by Prof. Clement Fortin

A graduate of Kazan State Technical University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Heriot-Watt University (United Kingdom), and a postgraduate of Skoltech. Obtained his PhD in Engineering Systems at the Skoltech Center for Digital Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Clement Fortin. Before joining Skoltech as a PhD student worked as an engineer in avionics at “Elara” plant, as a petroleum engineer in “Gazpromneft” and “Rosneft.” After the graduation from Skoltech he worked as the Head of the Center for Systems Engineering at the Tyumen State University, later joined Sadovsky Institute of Geosphere Dynamics of the Russian Academy of Sciences as a research scientist.

While working in “Rosneft” participated in design decision making for concept selection of the rock core research center and the petrophysical laboratory. While doing his PhD in Skoltech developed a decision-making framework for concept selection of innovative complex engineering systems and applied it to concept selection of medium-complexity and complex systems from the oil and gas industry: automated rock core description system, Arctic LNG transportation system (a retrospective study), etc. He currently combines his expertise in Earth Sciences with the knowledge of Systems Engineering for doing the collaborative fundamental research in multi-criteria decision-making for one of the earthquake prediction systems. In the Systems Thinking Group at the Skoltech Center for Digital Engineering, senior research engineer Dr. Nikolaev will work on the development of the decision support system for concept selection of complex systems with application predominantly to the systems from the oil and gas industry.
